The app tells the popular story of Goldilocks and the 3 bears, and I would describe it as an interactive story book. The story is narrated but the child is able to join in by following/reading the words on each page as well as interacting with the characters and their surroundings by tapping on the screen.
I have to admit it took me longer than my two and a half year old to find out which of the characters or scenery moved or made noises when you tapped them. He got straight in there seeing what happened when he pressed the screen. It’s as if he was born with the knowledge of how to use an iPad!
He thought it was great fun exploring the pages to see what happened if he tapped different parts of the screen. He really enjoyed trying to help the 3 bears wake Goldilocks from her deep sleep and especially liked mummy bears reactions to her porridge being tasted and her chair being sat on. We had to stay on those particular pages for quite a while!
I would say the app was a little more suited to children who are just a little older, maybe from age 3 who have a better understanding of storytelling, but even so it was a lovely introduction to fairytales and one I’m sure he’ll ask to look at over and over again.
The story is well narrated, easy to understand and follow and the illustrations and animations are delightful. The choice of story makes the app suitable for both boys and girls, and you’ll be pleased to know that Goldilocks did have to tidy up after all the mess she had caused!
A fun app that’s simple to use and straightforward for children to understand, it stays true to the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. It teaches the story without being over educational and is great to sit and use with young children as you can explain things to them as you go along.
You wouldn’t think that this app is the first one developed by Playfuel, two Mums who decided to start a business creating digital apps and games for children, and I look forward to seeing what they come up with next.
I should mention that the book is available for download on the iPhone and iPad but I’ve used it on the iPad only.
