We all remember the good old days where we used to go crazy as kids for temporary tattoos. I mean who wouldn’t, they looked (kind of) like the real tattoos except they could be washed off the next day.
These tattoos are still about today except they have gone a step further and now you can buy the tattoo paper itself and print out your own designs. This has started a flurry of graphics designers and crafters into creating their own temporary tattoos.
With many designs and different types of the paper available, we wanted to provide a quick tutorial on how to print the images and apply them as tattoos.
Using your favourite image editing software, this may be GIMP or Photoshop etc. Find or create the image you want to use. What you must make sure of is when making the image ensure the image background is transparent so that you don’t have a white background on the tattoo itself. Make sure to export the images as PNG to keep the image back ground transparent. Also, remember, because these will be tattoos; remember to reverse the images and text so that they appear the correct way round as a tattoo.
Purchase you temporary tattoo paper. There is a range available at Crafty Computer Paper. Crafty Computer Paper provides 2 types, inkjet and laser paper. Please purchase the correct one based on what printer you have.
Print of the images onto the paper and let them dry for a short while if you have an inkjet printer.
Once the tattoos have dried, attached the supplies adhesive paper onto the printed sheet. Rub the 2 sheets together to ensure you have got ridden of all the air bubbles.
Once the paper is ready, cut out the tattoos using a pair of scissors.
From the tattoo, peel off the protective film to be left with a sticky surface.
Place the design face down onto your skin where you want the tattoo.
Use a damp sponge or cloth and apply plenty of water to the tattoo and rub gently. Do this for about 1 minute.
Eventually, the paper will easily slide off and you will be left with your custom designed tattoo on your skin to show off.
So this concludes the tutorial on how to use the temporary tattoo paper to create your own custom tattoos. Now why don’t you go out and see how creative you can be. There is all kinds of logos, images already on the Internet that would look amazing as tattoos and even more you could make yourself.
