Hi, Just wondered if there were any mums on here who sell for companies like Avon? We already have an avon lady in our area so wondered what other options were available and what you think of them.

Would love to find out more about your expreriences and if it's a good way of making some extra money, also wonder what the initial outlay is like and how may hours a week you spend doing it? Also what sort of experience do you need? I'm currently a receptionist and have never worked in any type of sales. Any tips in general would be great.

I like the idea of the ones where you can do parties as I'm really outgoing and think it would suit me down to the ground!

Hiya carina,
I do a "work from home" business called Scentsy. I was previously looking for something like avon etc but I totally dismissed it purely due to the sheer number of reps in my local area. I looked into doing body shop at home, as I LOVE the products, but whe I looked into it further I "needed" to have a certain number of party bookings on my books etc and just found that it wasn't really viable for me as I am a single parent and child care wise it was going to end up being too much time away from my wee girl. I work full time in my other business and my wee girls is in nursery full time too so having to get a baby sitter in the evenings/weekends really put me off :(
I've always been a scented candle lover, but partylite was similar to body shop in terms of party booking etc. that was a couple of years ago, I ended up just putting the idea to bed and never thought any more of it.
Until last year, I discovered the brand Scentsy were coming to the UK. I had heard they were a company similar to partylite but the products were different. When I initially started looking at their products, it was to see if it here were something I would use/buy. I was totally taken when I looked at the products that were available and knew immediately I wanted to join, not as a rep, but just to buy for myself! I had quite literally spend a good thousand pound offer e last few years on Yankee candles and figured if i was gonna love scentsy as much as I loved them I might as well join and then at least I'd get commission back on my own sales!! lol I joined on the day they launched in the UK last April and just over a year on I have a thriving business and a team of 25 consultants under me!! I think the point that clinched it for me was defo the products, I LOVE them and I had absolutely no intention of selling to other people when I joined, but once I had the products and used them, visitors to my home and friends and family wanted to try them too – the fact that they are so new to the UK helped immensely! But the rest of the business shuts snowballed! 2 of my friends joined my team and then the rest are random people that saw the products or saw me talking about!
You don't have any set targets for sales with scentsy either, nor do you NEED to have party bookings. You don't even need to have parties! In my first year I had only 4 parties in the whole year and I sold over £7000 worth of product last year. The rest of the sales came through Facebook, twitter, word of mouth, shows and fairs.
If you'd like any more info please just get in touch and I'd be happy to share :0)

Hi Karen,

I have heard of scentsy but have yet to actually come accross their products, so maybe one to consider, is it mainly online or do you deliver catalogoues 'a la' Avon as well?

Do you think it's important to really love the products you are selling?

Hi There,  I am in exactly the same position but work for Your Inspiration at Home.  They too have just launched in the UK and having previously worked for Ann Summers and been tempted by Pampered Chef I was also put off by the number of other sellers in my area.  I was won over by YIAH as it is just starting here (it is already a multi million dollar company in Australia) so I could join at the bottom and recruit a team to go out and o all the hard work and parties for me!

We have a really low start up fee, a full training programme and yes I also love my products.  I get to cook with all of our products on a daily basis and my kids absolutely love it too.

I haven't heard of them Claire, what products do they sell?

Do you think it's much better to get involve when a company is just starting (eg in a new country) or can it be difficult if no one's heard of them? What has the response from your clients been like?

Hi Carina, Herbalife are the Worlds largest nutriton company and it's the future in Direct Selling in the UK, it's just creating waves with it's fantastic weight loss and ground breaking sports nutrition. We sponsor numerous olympic athletes along with David Beckhams LA Galaxy team and Lione Messi and FC Barcelona to name a few.

We have been around for over 32 years, we operate in over 80 countries and are listed on the New York Stock Exchange but the thing which did it for me apart from the worlds 2 greatest footballing commodoties using our products is the fact that our CEO actually left The Disney Corporation to join Herbalife.

You can work as little or as often as you like because you're the boss, there is no experience required because you have access 24/7 to fantastic online training and support and I love the fact that all the distributors are happy, positive, motivated people because they are having excellent nutrition and helping people to get healthy.

Have a look at my website http://www.ahealthynewu.co.uk/join.

I can also send you a video presentation to watch made by real UK Distributors.

Just let me know if you or anyone else you know is looking to earn an extra income or wants a change of career.

Get in now, because its growing rapidly in the UK and I just absolutely love it.

Kind Regards

Alison

Scentsy can be whatever you want it to be – you get an online website which you can get sales through, the website is free for first 3 months then £10 a month thereafter, but it is totally optional. So if you know you are not going to do the online advertising you can just ignore it. You can work Scentsy, Party Style or however YOU want. The only restrictions Scentsy have on generating sales are that the products can not be sold cash & carry from a retail environment and if you do choose to sell online – you may only do so through an official scentsy website. How you sell is entirely up to you!

I often get really good orders from what we call "basket parties" – i would loan out a warmer, a selection of wax that can be used in it, a set of fragrance testers, order forms, catalogues and a few other bits of product information. I leave this with the Basket Party Host for however long we agree, usually a week – sometimes more, sometimes less, just depends what you both want. I let the Host experience Scentsty for themself, in their own home.

A lot of times I hear, "oh i don't have a big enought house/time/enough friends for a party" and by offering them a "Basket Party" I am giving them the chance to use the products – try before you buy if you like! Scentsy is one of those products that once you experience it, you just got to have it!

If you would like a catalogue and a few samples for yourself just to see what they are like just let me know, i'm posting out a batch this week :0) or you can check out my website in my siggy.

I have been working for Jamie at Home since May – and thoroughly enjoy it! It's a part-time, fits in with my family time and I can do it anywhere in the UK – which I think is important!

I think Jamie Oliver's JME range is fantastic, and I find a lot of people really love it too… There is something for everybody's budget and the parties are loads of fun too.

I've never done direct sales, and I have actually found it quite fun! :)
