A few years ago now I went for a job interview – not much of a job but I had a wonderful 11 years at this large company and during my time there they paid for me to do a business degree, to travel throughout Europe as a representative of the company and to improve my business knowledge generally.  The one thing the HR man said to me after the interview that has stayed with me always was that I had got the job because of my firm handshake!!  I know this sounds bizarre but when there are several candidates for a job and not much between them, this one thing can (and in my case did) make a huge difference.  This could also apply to your own business – if you have to meet with suppliers, bank managers (are there any these days?) business advisors or customers it really is the second impression they get (after appearance) and as someone who has spent the last few years visiting many businesses there is nothing more inclined to put you off than a limp handshake. This may seem an odd thing to offer as advice but it is something that women are really bad at.  Men shake hands all the time but a lot of women I meet in the workplace seem uncomfortable with this greeting.  If you're going to do it, do it with confidence – that 2nd impression could be make or break.

" THE FEAR OF FAILURE PREVENTS US FROM REACHING OUR FULL POTENTIAL"

I have this emblazened in my mind and everytime I doubt myself I remember these motivating words. If you are in business of course things have to make financial sense but NEVER let fear of failure be a deciding factor. I also recite this to my children and it has allowed them to try new things and put themselves forward for things that they were unsure about. As a result they have embraced and achieved things that they would never have done if they had not 'given it a go'. If you have a dream and want to fulfil it then my advice is to try and if you fail then thats ok because at least you have given it your all!

I have gone for many interviews that I thought I didnt stand a chance of getting. I started a business after so many said I would fail. Yet when I realized it was my fear of failure and having to face family and friends that was stopping me, I knew I had to try and reach my full potential and put the fear of failure behind me. I am glad to say I have never looked back.

Remember this piece of advice………
